The National Chairman, Patriots for the Advancement of Peace and Social Development (PAPSD), Alhaji Sani Abdullahi Shinkafi has called on journalists and social media handlers to avoid writing fake news so as not to jeopardize the efforts of the goverment in fighting insecurity in the country.
Wambai who spoke when he hosted Media practitioners, social media handlers and other groups to a Ramadan break fast in his resident in Gusau town said, writing fake news could be as dangerous as anything, adding that, “It can lead to a breach of security and other misunderstanding between the goverment and the governed”.
He called on journalists and social media handlers in the state to always cross-check and verify their facts before going to press.
“You should try as much as possible to cross-check and verify your stories before publishing them so as to avoid misinforming the general public”.
He maintained that, journalists and social media handlers have a vital role to play in fighting insecurity and other forms of criminal activities, as such, he called on them to assist Zamfara state Government in its efforts to rid the state of banditry.
Wambai stated that, the issue of security was everybody’s business, adding that, “It is not the responsibility of the goverment alone as people wrongly perceived the situation”.
“Government alone cannot end banditry or other forms of criminal activities. People must also cooperate and assist the government to squarely address the issue”.
He drew the attention of the public that, insecurity was not only peculiar to Zamfara state alone, stressing that, “It is a global phenomenon”.
“No where is peaceful both in and outside the country, as such, I want to use this opportunity to call on the entire Muslim Umma to pray for peace in this Holy month of Ramadan”. Concluded Wambai.
