STAY WITHIN YOUR SCHEDULE OF DUTY: Zamfara Police Command Warns Abubakar Dauran

From Maiharaji Altine, Gusau

Zamfara state police command has warned the state’s Special Adviser on security, Abubakar Dauran to operate within his schedule of duty and stop intruding into police activities.

Recall that, Dauran has during a press conference accused the police of extorting money from motorists at filling stations, warning them to desist from going to filling stations.

But in a sharp reaction, the state police command described Dauran’s  accusation as not only deformative and misleading but also an attempt to discredit his former constituency, that is the Nigeria Police.

In a statement, the spokesperson of the police command, SP Mohammed Shehu said Dauran has no constitutional rights to prevent the police from going to fuel stations to discharge their duty.

Shehu said, “The attention of Zamfara State Police Command has been drawn to an alleged extortion against Police officers at filling stations by the  state taskforce chairman, Alhaji Abubakar Mohammed Dauran”.

“Dauran addressed the Press on Tuesday 1st March, 2022, accusing the Police of extortion at  filling stations in the name of enforcing security in the ongoing fuel scarcity in the state”.

“He went further to warn the Police to desist from going to the filling stations, since the taskforce Committee has not invited them”.

Shehu said, the command has not received any complaint of extortion against Police officers from members of the public, filling stations or any stakeholder in the petroleum sector in the  state.

He added that, the Taskforce Committee under Dauran has not at any time lodged a verbal or written complaint of any misconduct of police personnel at any filling station in the state.

Shehu lamented that the police command has only seen an online story attributed to Abubakar M. Dauran, accusing the Police of such misconduct.

“The Command therefore views the allegation of Abubakar Dauran as not only deformative and misleading but also an attempt to discredit his former constituency (the Nigeria Police Force) as well as to sabotage the relentless effort of His Excellency Governor Bello Matawalle in ensuring peace and stability are sustained in this period of fuel scarcity in the state”.

“The Command uses this medium to challenge Dauran to proof his allegations to enable the Commissioner of Police takes decisive action against any of its personnel indicted”.

“The Command also reminds members of the public that, the Nigeria Police is a lead agency in internal security, and it has the constitutional mandate to deploy its personnel anywhere to ensure protection of lives and properties and to prevent any breakdown of law and order”.

Shehu stressed that, Dauran like any other citizen, has a responsibility to observe and report any Police misconduct to the appropriate authority for appropriate action but has no power to prevent the police personnel from  carrying out their duty.

Shehu has assuresd members of the public that the command would leave no stone unturned in taking appropriate action against any of its erring personnel.
