Governor Bello Matawalle of Zamfara State has described human development and empowerment as the only solution to the security challenges in the the country.
The Governor made this known while receiving 2020 Democracy Heroes Award as the Best Governor on Human Development and Empowerment at the Transcorp Hilton Hotel, Abuja.
Governor Matawalle who was ealier billed to attend the programme in person, had to shelve the plan as a result of the death of the state’s PDP Chairman, Alhaji Ibrahim Mallaha Gusau.
He however directed his Special Adviser Media, Public Enlightenment and Communication, Honourable Zailani Bappa to represent him at programme.
Matawalle said his administration’s policy on human development and empowerment was to engage youths into meaningful businesses which would also serve as alternative to reduction in the Security challenges facing the State
He added that when youths were engaged into useful businesses that would occupy them every time, it will go a long way in reducing the level of crimes as it wi encourage the youths to become self sufficient and reliant.
He further said that human development and empowerment will not only assist goverment at all levels to reduce over dependence on government job but will make most of the youths more enterprising and contributors to the national economy
Governor Matawalle assured he will continue to do more in that direction and he considered the award as another challenge to do more.
The award was presented to the Governor by the Minister of Women Affairs, Madam Pauline Tallen and assisted by the House of Representatives Majority Leader, Honourable Ado Doguwa.
He thanked organisers of the event for acknowledging his administration’s strive in human development and empowerment and and honouring him.
Governor Matawalle dedicated the award to the state’s Widows and orphans who lost their husbands and parents to banditry activities in the State
Matawalle was honoured along with Governor Nasir Ahmed El-Rufai of Kaduna State, Honourable Ministers of Communications and Digital Economy, Foreign Affairs and Women Affairs, Dr Ali Isa Pantami, Mr Geoffrey Enyema and Madam Pauline Tallen respectively
Others include Ambassador Fatima Goni, Senator Uba Sani, some members of the House of Representatives, Civil Servants and Captains of industries.
The occasion was attended by the Director General on Media to governor Matawalle, Mallam Yusuf Idris Gusau and Personal Physician to the Governor, Dr. Aliyu Abdulkadir Shinkafi.
