From Maiharaji Altine Gusau
Fresh crisis has engulfed the Zamfara State chapter of the All Progressive Congress (APC) barely two weeks to the by-election into the vacant seat of a House of Assembly member of Bakura constituency.
The Former Governor Yari’s faction of the party has fielded its candidate in the name of Bello Dankande Gamji to contest for the election, while the kabiru Marafa’s faction withdrew from the contest, describing it as a useless venture.
Addressing journalists in Gusau today, the Publicity Secretary of Senator Marafa’s faction, Alhaji Bello Bakyasuwa said fielding a candidate by any faction to contest the election is a useless venture”.
He maintained that, “Zamfara State APC is still in court, as such, it has no constitutional rights to present a candidate to contest the election”.
Bakyasuwa kicked against the claim by Abdul Aziz Yari’s faction that the Appeal court sitting in Sokoto has set aside the Zamfara State High Court judgement in favour of Yari’s faction.
Bakyasuwa said, the Appeal court did not specifically announce any faction as tentative executive members of the party.
He said, “The court has only set aside the Zamfara State High Court judgement, but didn’t give the mantle of leadership of the party to any faction”.
According to him, both factions were only directed by the court to go back to status-quo because it has only set aside the Zamfara state High Court judgement.
He stressed that, Marafa’s faction was going to the Supreme Court for the interpretation of the Appeal court’s judgement.
He however maintained that “Even if by chance the APC candidate succeeded in getting the highest votes in the forthcoming by-election in Bakura, it is going to be wasted votes as what happened last year during the general elections”.
