Bandits have kidnapped 53 people including a village head in Lingyado village of Maru local government area in Zamfara state.
An eye witness account, Abdullahi Mohammed who narrowly escaped the kidnap, told Analyzer news that, the village head, Alhaji Dalhatu Mohammed and 53 others were kidnapped by gunmen who came to the village around 8 o’clock in the morning today.
According to him, the bandits were on motorcycles and immediately they arrived in the village, they started to shoot sporadically and later went from house to house where they kidnapped the affected people.
He Maintained that, “They didn’t kill anybody and didn’t rustle animals or steal our food but they have abducted all the important personalities in the village including our village head and the Chief Imam”.
Mohammed stressed that, he narrowly escaped the kidnap as according to him, hẹ jumped over a wall when the bandits were about to enter into his house and run into bush.
He added that, the village was now deserted for fear of the return of the bandits.
Confirming the incident, the spokesperson of the police command SP Mohammed Shehu said, “We received the report, but I don’t know the exact number of people kidnapped by bandits in that village”.
Shehu said, they have since sent a team of heavily armed policemen to pursue the bandits in order to rescue the victims.
Meanwhile, the state government has directed the traditional rulers in the state to ask their subjects to embark on special prayers for Divine intervention against banditry activities that have resurfaced despite the peace process.
