Mauluud: Former Governor Yari urges Muslims to pray for peace

Former Governor of Zamfara, Alhaji Abdul’aziz Yari, has called on Muslim Umma in the country to use the period of Eid-Maulud to pray for peace, following security challenges affecting the nation.


Yari made the call on Thursday at a Maulud  gathering  in Kaura Namoda town, Kaura-Namoda Local Government Area of the state.


The former Governor who was represented by the state chairman  of the All Progressive Congress (APC), Alhaji Lawal Liman, said “there is no time that Nigeria needs prayers more than now”.


He appealed to muslims to emulate the teachings of the Prophet Muhammad, whose birthday, they were celebrating.


“While celebrating Maulud to mark the birthday of Prophet Muhammad, let us seek Allah’s intervention to end the security challenges facing the state and some parts of the country.


“We should include our country’s  leaders in our prayers at this trying  period,” he urged.


He also commended Islamic scholars in the area for guiding the general public in the worship of Allah.


“I am calling on our scholars to continue to preach peace and stability as well as unity and tolerance of one another.


“I want to use this medium to call on our youths to desist from any form of violence.


“As leaders of tommorow, you should also embark in seeking  both islamic and western education as you have bright future ahead.


“I thank the organizers of this occasion, on behalf of the APC leaders in the state, we facilitate with muslims on this memorable period.


“We promised to continue to work with Islamic scholars to promote peace,  stability and development in the society,” he advised.


Earlier, the Leader of Kadiriyya Sect in Sokoto, Zamfara, Katsina and Kebbi states, Sheikh Bello Kanwa,  urged muslims to emulate the good deeds of Prophet Muhammad.


The cleric condemned what he termed ” the recent blasphemy of Prophet Muhammad in France” and described the action as an act of lawlessness.Sheikh Bello Namalam-Babba who spoke on behalf of Tijjaniyyya Sect, thanked the former governor for donating food items, cash and livestock  for the celebration across the state.


Another cleric, Bashir Nahuche, commended the APC leadership in the state for constructing an Islamic school in Kaura Namoda estimated at about N20 million.
