Three persons have been killed, some buildings were set on fire, while several vehicles were destroyed in Bakura town of Bakura local government area in Zamfara state.
This is coming ahead of the House of Assembly by-election for the vacant seat of Bakura constituency slated to hold tomorrow (Saturday).
Addressing journalists in Bakura, the Assistant Inspector of Police in charge of zone 10, Mohammed A. Mustapha said the deceased persons were killed as a result of squabbles between supporters of the two major political parties (APC and PDP).
Mustapha declared that more crises could erupt if proper care was not taken adding that “many people might lose their lives if the political rallies are allowed to go on”.
Our reporter who was in Bakura to witness the APC campaign rally has discovered that supporters of the two major political parties (APC and PDP) were well armed ready to engage each other in a fight.
Addressing the APC supporters in a mammoth crowd in Bakura during a rally last Thursday, the former Governor, Alhaji Abdul Aziz Yari urged them to remain law-abiding citizens.
Yari called on the APC supporters to come out enmass to vote for the Party’s candidate, Alhaji Bello Dankande Gamji in the next Saturday’s election.
He also called on them to defend their votes no matter the pressure, expressing the hope that, APC candidate would emerge victorious.
The state Governor, Alhaji Bello Matawalle who also addressed the press last night blamed the APC supporters for what happened.
The Governor who looked worried warned former Governor Yari to stop causing trouble in the state or have himself to blame.
He also advised some APC Governors who were invited by former Governor Yari for the election not to come to the state so that the crises did not escalate beyond control
