A former Zamfara state’s APGA Gubernatorial candidate in the 2019 general elections, Dr. Sani Abdullahi Shinkafi has faulted the sudden withdrawal of the APC in the just concluded Bakura supplementary election.

Dr. Sani, who acted as the chairman of the election monitoring committee of APGA said, “APC’s sudden withdrawal is a clear demonstration that their leaders are ignorant of the provision of the nation’s electoral act”.

He Maintained that, going by the electoral guidelines, the APC cannot withdraw from the supplementary election at the eleventh hour.

According to him, “by virtue of section (35) of the Electoral Act 2010 as amended APC has not met the requirements of the law to perfect its withdrawal from the race”.

“Section (36) of the electoral act says “a candidate may withdraw his candidature by notice in writing signed by him and delivered by himself to the political party that nominated him for the election and the political party shall convey such withdrawal to the Commission not later than 45 clays to the election”.

He however maintained tha, the APC has even participated at the Bakura supplementary election as evidence indicated that, the number of votes scored by the party has been registered.

He advised former Governor Yari to accept defeat and stop crying foul where there was none.
