The Advanced Teachers College Maru Reunion members have on Saturday converged at the premises of their alma mater in Maru town, Zamfara state,to witness the first annual general meeting of the union.
The occasion which started by 11 o’clock in the morning, was attended by more than 100 members drawn from Sokoto, Kebbi and Zamfara states.
Some papers were presented at the occasion by Professor Sa’idu Mohammed Gusau, represented by Dr. Usman Ladan kurya and Professor Musa Garba Maitafsiri who was also represented by Dr. Ahmed Sani Sambo.
Speaking at the occasion, the Pioneer President, Dr. Mohammed Idris Gusau thanked all members for finding time to grace the memorable occasion and urged them to maintain the tempo.
Dr. Idris commended the members of the union who have come out with the noble idea of creating the forum and prayed Allah for its sustainability.
Zamfara state Governor, Alhaji Bello Matawalle, who was represented by the Commissioner of education Dr. Ibrahim Abdullahi commended the efforts of the old students for hosting the maiden meeting and assured that the state government would do everything possible to revive the education sector which was in a terrible stage.
Dr. Ibrahim maintained that, it was one of the reasons for closing down some private schools in the state that were operating below standard and advised that, proprietors of such schools must ensure that they operate within the guidelines for establishing a school.
He stated that, the state would not compromise standard and warned that any school that was not up to the standard would for ever be shut down.
In his speech at the occasion, the former Registrar of the institution, Alhaji Ahmed Rufai Gusau expressed delight for being honoured by the old students and and them for the gesture.
He commended both the old students and the former lecturers who had put in their best to make the institution proud lamenting however that, the present standard of education was not encouraging.
The Provost of the Present College of Education Maru Dr. Ibrahim Usman who was the host of the event commended the old students for their efforts in hosting the maiden meeting and urged them to contribute to the development of their alma mater.
The chairman of the occasion, Alhaji Abu Mailada Maru described the old students as shining stars who have made the former ATC Maru to be the best among its equals.
He urged the students of the current College of Education Maru to copy from the former ATC students to ensure that, the institution maintained its credibility.
In a vote of thanks, the Secretary General of the reunion, Alhaji Usman Abubakar Doda, thanked the invited guest as well as the entire old students for honouring the invitation to attend the grant occasion, wishing everybody journey mercies to their respective destinations.
