Zamfara state Government has assured that it would not allow the health sector to be bastardized by substandard private hospitals and clinics currently operating in the state.
Addressing journalists in his office, the state commissioner of health, Alhaji Yahaya Mohammed Kanoma said some private hospitals and clinics currently operating in the state did not meet the requirements of being health care centers.
He maintained that the state government would take serious measures against such hospitals and clinics adding that “We will not allow them to continue causing havoc to the people of the state”.
Yahaya stated that, the state government has already closed down four of such private hospitals and clinics for their inability to meet up with the requirements, adding that 40 others were under screening by officials of the state ministryhealth.
The affected clinics that were closed down due to incompetence according to the commissioner included Shasha Clinic Nassarawa, Samawa Clinic, Matuzgi Clinic and Dansadau Nursing Home.
He said that, the present administration of Governor Bello Mattawale was determined to inprove health care service to it’s people.
“The present administration of Governor Bello Mattawale Maradun is very much determined to provide quality health hare to all citizens of the state”.
“Our concern is Zamfara first. So let the proprietors of such closed down health service centers fulfill all the guidelines”.
The commissioner was particularly worried with the outcry of some prominent personalities in the state following the closure of Dansadau Nursing Home, lamenting that, “the place is not even registered and given license by the state government to operate”.
According to him, there were no qualified manpower to run the Dansadau Nursing Home lamenting that, there were several cases of unprofessional misconduct from the unqualified staff working there.
Kanoma disclosed that his ministry was committed to sanitize private health institutions in the state to ensure provision of qualitative health service in the state.
“We received complaints on the activities of some private clinics, hospitals, Nursing homes and Diagonistics centers from SSS, NDLEA, Civil Defence and other security agencies on the way they are operating”.
Also speaking, the Director Inspectorate Services of the ministry, Alhaji Bashir Adamu Gusau said they embarked on inspection of all private hospitals and clinics in the state to ensure sanity and professionalism.
He mentioned that the ministry has recorded over 40 private hospitals clinics, Diagonistics centers and Nursing homes, adding that, they were under screening to ensure that they met the requirements.
