The Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) Zamfara Chapter has commended Governor Matawalle of Zamfara State for according the health sector a greater priority by making it the sector with the highest allocation.
In a press release, the Vice chairman of the association, Dr. Sanusi Bello said “NMA Zamfara observed that allocation of 12.98 billion naira amounting to more than 9% of the total budget of the state is the highest in the history of our dear sate and this is in tandem of the current reality of COVID 19 global pandemic”.
“We wish to clearly appreciate and salute HE the Executive Governor of Zamfara State Hon (Dr) Bello Muhammad MON Matawallen Maradun for this boldness and for taking concrete steps to put the health sector in a good shape in order to effectively serve the people of the state”.
The association lauded the efforts of the state government for the construction of state of the art Isolation and Treatment Centre (infectious diseases hospital), expansion of Ahmad Sani Yariman Specialist Hospital, construction of 147 PHCs and 14 Women and children hospitals in the state, ensuring the establishment of primary healthcare under one roof and achieving universal healthcare coverage through the state health insurance scheme.
NMA expressed optimism that the creation of ZAMCHEMA will no doubt improve access to quality health care and ensured improvement of quality of life and ultimately reduces maternal and child morbidity and mortality in Zamfara State.
The association finally called on the state government to match words with action by ensuring timely releases of funds to the ministry of health and her agencies, health care facilities to ensure uninterrupted healthcare services to the people of Zamfara State.
The NMA concluded that its members would continue to partner with Zamfara State Government towards ensuring a robust healthcare industry that will serve the best interest of the people of Zamfara State.
