The authorities of the Federal University Gusau has reputed the allegation that, the bandits have attacked the University.

There were wide speculatons that, the bandits had entered into the institution but could not abduct anybody as both the staff and the students took to their heels on sighting the bandits who were on motorcycles.

It was however discovered that, the moving Fulanis were not bandits but were innocent Fulanis coming back from the wedding ceremony they attended in a village closed to the university and because of the fear being entertained in the state as a result of banditry, the people ran helter skelter for their lives.

But in a statement, the Information Officer of the university, Malam Umar Usman said there was no iota of truth in what was being circulated in social media that, the bandits had attacked the institution.

Umar said “The Federal University Gusau wishes to inform the general public that the story going round in the social media that bandits have raided the University campus located along Gusau – Funtua Road yesterday Thursday, 4th March, 2021 is not true in its totality”.

“The incident might have occurred as a result of panic by the students arising from the kidnap of the GGSS Jangebe girls and other related issues of insecurity in the state when the students sighted some Fulani men returning from a Ceremony”.

Umar said “The Students got frightened and scampered for safety”.

“The University therefore condemns in totality how people are eager to circulate news without making any effort for its authentication from the concerned authorities”.

The Management also cautions staff and students against forwarding social media messages as received without proper scrutiny”.

He advised the general public to disregard the story, saying that “It istotally untrue and misleading.

“The University since its establishment in 2013 has never recorded any security threat.Staff and students are also urged to remain calm and continue with their normal activities”. Concluded Umar.
