As part of efforts to assist the people of the state to conduct the Ramadan fast with ease, Zamfara state Government has purchased and distributed 450 trucks of assorted grains and essential commodities worth N2.9 billion.
This was revealed by the Chairman of the committee for the distribution of this year’s Ramadan welfare packages and the Speaker Zamfara state House of Assembly Rt Hon Nasiru Muazu Magarya.
The Speaker said “The Ramadan welfare packages were meant for the vulnerable, less privileged, internally displaced persons, civil servants and other categories of members of the public to help in reducing the hardships being faced by people and to enable them conduct the Ramadan fast with relative ease and happiness”.
The foodstuffs and the essential communities according to the Speaker are, 60, 000 bags of rice, 50,000 bags of millets, 50, 000 bags maize, 30,000 bags beans and 10,000 bags of sugar.
To ensure equity, fareness and justice in the distribution exercise, His Excellency the Executive Governor has ordered for the formation and or constitution of committees at both state, local government, ward and polling unit levels as follows:
A. State Committee.

10. Hon Special Adviser ( Political) as the Secretary of the committee.
B. Local Government Committee
1. Local Government Sole Administrator as the committee chairman
2. Local Government party chairman
3. All members of the National and state Assemblies in the local government
4. All commissioners and Special Advisers in the local government
5. Permanent Secretaries and Directors General in the local government
6. Local Government Secretary
7. Representatives of the Emirs in the local government
8. Representatives of all security agencies in the local government.
9. Local Government party Secretary to serve as Secretary of the committee.
C. Ward Committee
1. Ward councillor as chairman.
2. Ward party chairman
3. Polling unit Party chairmen
4. Youth leader
5. Woman leader
6. Ward Party Secretary to serve as the committee’s secretary.
D. Polling Unit Committee
1. Polling unit party chairman as the chairman.
2. All members of his EXCO.
3. Polling Unit Secretary to serve as the committee Secretary.
All the appointmented committee members are hereby warned to desist from any wrong doing in the distribution of these items as supervising committees have also been appointed to watch the distribution exercise and report how the exercise was conducted by both the 4 committees.
Members should ensure that the foodstuffs reach the targetted beneficiaries directly and without delay.
