The Speaker, Zamfara State House of Assembly Rt Hon Nasiru Mu’azu Magarya recieved the most prestigious African Institute of Public Health Professionals Fellowship award.
This was contained in statement by the Director General, Press Affairs and Public Relations ofZamfara state House of Assembly Gusau, Alhaji Mustafa Jafar Kaura.
Conferring the award to the state Chief Lawmaker, the Registrar of the institute, Mr Ayodele Bankole James said, Speaker Magarya was carefully chosen judging by his track record as Chief Lawmaker of the state with particular emphasis on his superlative performance as Chairman Taskforce Committee on Orevention and Control of COVID-19 pandemic in the state.
Mr Bankole James added that the fellowship is only conferred on public health officers that excelled in their professional career which according to him Speaker Nasiru Magarya happened to be one of them in recent time.
In his remarks, the Chairman Governing Council of the institute Professor O.C Abanobi represented by the chapter chairman Sokkwato, Zamfara and Kebbi states, Dr Muhammad Idris Gusau charged Speaker Magarya and other recipients of the award to be good Ambassadors of the institute where ever they found themselves through demonstration of good conduct and morality .
Professor Abanobi said “To whom much is given, much is also expected” and charged them not to be distracted from their good conduct and behaviour.
Responding shortly after the receipt of the fellowship award Speaker Magarya said he was highly elated for the award considering the fact that it came from his professional body and promise to justify the confidence repose on him.
Speaker Nasiru said the award would be a motivating factor to him and his colleagues that recieved the award in putting their best in the service of humanity across the three core geo – Northwestern states of Sokoto Kebbi and zamfara.
About 14 health public professionals were awarded which include a one time kebbi state Deputy Speaker Rt Hon Jafar Muhammad, Sokoto state commissioner for Health Dr Muhammad Ali Inname immediate past commissioner for health from Zamfara state Alhaji Yahaiya Muhammad Kanoma and Miss Ebero Joy, a Nursing officer from Kebbi state among others .
Highlights of the events were the citation of the recipients, as well as the presentation of certificate, a plague, and academic gown to each recipient.
The speaker was accompanied in the event by Hon Aminu Yusuf Jangebe and has since returned to Gusau the state capital.
