From Maiharaji Altine Gusau
The Deputy Governor of Zamfara state, Barrister Mahdi Aliyu Gusau has urged the State House of Assembly to respect the rules of Law and drop its plan to impeach him.
Recall that, the State House of Asembly has given the Deputy Governor another 48 hours to appear before it on Thursday July 28 2021 but he did not go to the house.
Addressing a press conference in his office on Thursday, Barrister Gusau drew the attention of the House to the court order and the suit that stop them from going ahead and impeach him.
Gusau said, his party, the PDP has instituted an action at the Federal High Court Abuja, challenging the intention of the State House of Assembly to impeach him.
“As you are all aware that my party, the people’s Democratic party (PDP) has instituted an action at the Federal High Court Abuja judicial division in suit no FHC/ABJ/ CS/650/2021: PDP Vs INEC and five others challenging the vires of the Zamfara State House of Assembly to commence my impeachment”.
He maintained that the court has granted an order directing the State House of Assembly to stop its plan of removing him from office.
“You will recall that, the Federal High Court has granted an order, directing maintenance of the status quo ante bellum by the court on the 19th day of July 2021”.
“The court order was served on the Chief Judge of Zamfara State, the Zamfara State House of Assembly and the Governor of Zamfara State”.
The Deputy Governor explained that, a distinguished Life bencher, Mr. Emmanuel C. Ukala has also written a letter to the Honourable Speaker of Zamfara State House of Assembly, drawing his attention to the Court’s order, lamenting however that, the Lawmakers were bent in removing him from office.
He said, “Despite the foregoing state of affairs, the House of Assembly has now embarked on steps and actions to over-reach the pending suit, disobeying the court order and render the effect of the suit nugatory by scheduling a sitting to proceed with impeachment on Thursday 29th 2021 (today) against me”.
“I am of the honest view that the action will be improper, indecorous, inappropriate and unlawful as it constitutes disobedience to court order”.
“It will also be tantamount to a flagrant breach of the law”.
The Deputy Governor therefore called on the general public to call the Zamfara State House of Assembly to order.
“I urge the well meaning citizens and people of goodwill to press on the Zamfara State Assembly to obey the subsisting order of the court”.
“They should respect the judicial process, exercise restraint and wait for the outcome”. He concluded.
