MINOR FEDERAL CABINET RESHUFFLE: BETTER LATE THAN NEVER

By Shittu Ahmed Obassa

After the Federal Executive Council meeting presided over by President Muhammadu Buhari, Femi Adeshina announced that two ministers had left office and mentioned their replacement. The affected ministers were Alhaji Mohammed Sabo Nanono, erstwhile in Charge of Agriculture and Rural Development and Malam Mamma Saleh, heading Ministry of Power.
Their replacements are Dr. Mohammed Mahmud Abubakar hitherto heading the Ministry of Environment and Malam Abubakar D. Aliyu who was Minister of State in Ministry of Works and Housing.

The minor cabinet reshuffle was long overdue but typical of the personal style of Buhari he waited until the two Ministers overstayed their welcome and this kind of foot dragging on his part accounts for slow pace at which development is taking in the country and his critics hardly spare him.

He said he was not to leave office a failure and he would make changes when necessary for the administration to consolidate on its legacy achievements.Someone who is uncharitable has described the changes too little, too late.

But for me, it is better late than never at all.I understand Mamman has collapsed following his sack and now in the hospital for medical attention.

He reminds of Hajiya Hadiza Mailafia, who got the boot from President Good luck Jonathan as Minister of Environment and she burst into tears.

So call to service makes some people assume a lot of things about holding public office even their performances are below par and more or less liability to government that gave the ample opportunity.
