Zamfara state police command has arrested three outlawed vigilante group members for allegedly killing three Fulani herders.
Addressing newsmen in Gusau on Tuesday, the commissioner of police CP Ayuba N. Elkana said, the vigilante group members entered into a Fulani settlement in Bargaja village where they mercilessly slaughtered the three Fulani herders.
He said, “On 29th November, 2021 the Command received a distress call that, large number of outlawed group known as ‘Yansakai’ carrying dangerous weapons invaded a Fulani Settlement called Bargaja in Gusau LGA with intent to attack and kill the inhabitants of the village”.
“Police Tactical teams were proactively deployed to the village to repel the hoodlums from carrying out their nefarious activities against the community”.
“The operatives have succeeded in containing the situation as well as arresting the suspects for gruesomely killing three people in the village using cutlass and knives”.
Those arrested acccording to the Commissioner are, Zubairu Musa, Abdullahi Rabi’u and Buhari Mu’azu.
Exhibit recovered from them included one locally fabricated gun, cutlass with blood stain and wo knives with blood stain.
In a related development, CP Elkana said the command has recovered three AK 47 rifles and 43 rounds of ammunition along Maradun Shinkafi axis.
He said, “You will recall that, last week our operatives during search and rescue operation along Shinkafi axis succeeded in unconditional rescue of thirteen (13) kidnapped victims including Student of Government Day Secondary School Birnin Yero and Federal Polytechnic K/Namoda.
“On 27th November, 2021 same operatives stormed the enclaves of the abductors where exchange of gun battle ensued, which many of them escaped with possible gunshot injuries”.
“On search of abandoned enclave, three (3) AK-47 rifles with magazines containing fifty (50) rounds of live ammunition were recovered from the scene”.
CP Elkana also explained that, the command has succeeded in reacueing three kidnapped victims in Talata-mafara local government area.
The rescued victims acccording to the Commissioner are; Alhaji Lawali Dan-Sa’a, Nasiru Ibrahim and Sagiru Ya’u.
He said, “On 27th November, 2021 at about 2020hrs, Police operatives in T/Mafara LGA responded to a distress call regarding the report of abduction in Low cost Area by unidentified hoodlums”.
“The Divisional Police officer T/Mafara who led the operatives to the scene repelled the abductors and rescued the above named victims already abducted by the hoodlums”.
The victims were taken to Police Clinic Gusau for medical attention, debriefed by the Police before re-uniting them with their families.
Similarly, four persons in connection with criminal conspiracy and armed robbery were arrested in Gusau town, the state capital.
Those arrested acccording to CP Elkana were; Abubakar Ibrahim, aged 20yrs, Sadam Mohammed aged 20yrs, Nasiru Sani ‘M’ aged 20yrs and Umar Murtala ‘M’ aged 20yrs.
Elkana said, “On 24th November, 2021 at about 1700hrs, the above named suspects carrying dangerous weapons such as cutlass and clubs were arrested by the Police, following attack on one Mannir Aliyu ‘M’, Anas Garba ‘M’ and Sharhabilu Bello ‘M’ along Unguwar Yarima area, Gusau LGA”.
“The victims were attacked and hit at the back of their heads with a view to kill them”.
“During the attack, the following items were snatched away by the suspects; two Techno and one infinix handsets valued at one hundred and thirty five thousand naira (N135,000).”
“As a result, victims sustained serious injuries on their head. The case is under investigation and all the suspects will be charged to Court for prosecution”.
The commissioner further stated that four persons were arrested in connection with blockage of the Federal High Way at Sabon Gida in Kotorkoshi emirate of Bungudu local government area of the state.
The arrested persons acccording to him were; Nasiru Sa’idu, Dalhatu Sama’ila, Isah Abdullahi and Zaharadeen Ahmed.
He said, “On 28th and 29th November, 2021 communities of Karazau village in Kotorkoshi Emirate came to Sabon Gida and blocked the Gusau – Funtua Federal Highway in the name of persistant insecurity in their area, thereby causing traffic jam on the highway as well as creating fear and panic into the minds of innocent people”.
“The suspects did not stop at that, but they went ahead to be vandalizing vehicles of innocent commuters plying the road. Case is under investigation”.
The Commissioner warned that, “In as much as the Police and other security agencies in collaboration with State Government under the leadership of His Excellency, Dr. Bello Muhammad Matawallen Maradun, the Executive Governor of Zamfara State, are working assiduously to ensure peace and safety of the good people of Zamfara, the Command will not tolerate any act that constitute break down of law and order in the State”.
He maintained that blockage of any highway by any community, or groups of persons and embarking on illegal protest in whatever means will not be tolerated.
He concluded that, “The perpetrators if arrested will be investigated to know their partners in crime and will be charged to court for prosecution”.
