Governor Abubakar Atiku Bagudu has commiserated with students and teachers of Nana Asma’u Government Girls College Kamba, over the fire incident which gutted one of the hostels in the school.
This was contained in a press release by the Special Adviser to Governor Bagudu on Media and Publicity, Malam Yahaya Sarki and made available to Analyzer news.
The fire outbreak on Monday night gutted one of the hostels in the school as well as destroyed food and properties of the students but no lost of life .
Represented by the Chief of Staff, Government House, Alhaji Suleiman Muhammad Argungu, Jarman Kabi , the governor provided the affected students with immediate relief assistance.
These include cash, foodstuffs, mattresses, pillows, buckets, plates, wrappers, as well as new clothing material for uniform and engaged female tailors for sewing.
Senator Abubakar Atiku Bagudu announced that the State Government would construct two new hostel blocks including the one gutted by fire with immediate effect, necessitated by the unfortunate fire outbreak and the dilapidated nature of two others in use by the students.
Furthermore, the Government he said would erect fence round the college for security measures.
The governor cautioned teachers and students to strictly observe fire safety measures and avoid cooking inside hostels.
He announced to the students that the school was among the girls schools in the state targeted to be upgraded with skill acquisition center and computer lab.
‘ Kebbi State Government has included Nana Asma’u Government Girls College Kamba among schools to enjoy the World Bank education initiative for adolescent girls.
‘ The School will be provided with skill acquisition center and computer lab . Our Governor has passion for education particularly girl child education ‘, he said.
The Commissioner for Basic and Secondary School, Alhaji Muhammadu Magawata Aliero briefed the Governor about the incident and the prompt response of his ministry to mitigate difficulties encountered by the students.
He thanked the governor for sending a high powered delegation to sympathise with the students.
In separate remarks, the principal of the school, Hajiya Sa’adatu Ahmad Ali, the District Head of Kamba, Sarkin Shiko, Alhaji Muhammadu Zarumai and the Chairman of Dandi Local Government, Alhaji Abdulsalam Jibrin, appreciated Governor Abubakar Atiku Bagudu for his compassion and unrelenting care to the people of the area.
The Secretary to the State Government, Babale Umar Yauri, read out all the relief items purchased by the government which were handed over to the authorities of the college on-the-spot.
The Special Adviser on Security to the Governor, Rtd. Major Garba Rabi’u Kamba and officials from the State Emergency Management Agency, SEMA accompanied the representative of the Governor on the sympathy visit to the School.
