The immediate past Zamfara state Deputy Governor, Barrister Mahdi Aliyu Gusau recently impeached by the state House of Assembly has withdrawn from the PDP governorship race.
Gusau was the first person to purchase the nomination form under the platform of the People’s Democratic party (PDP) to contest for governorship position.
But all of a sudden, he has withdrawn from the contest on Wednesday few hours to the commencement of the primary election.
Gusau who announced his withdrawal through his Principal Private Secretary Umar Aminu in Gusau on Wednesday did not give reasons for his decision to step down from the contest.
He however declared his support to one of the contestants, Dauda Lawal and urged his supporters to vote for him, (Lawal).
In a statement, Mahdi said, “I want to bring to the notice of my supporters that I have withdrawn from the PDP governorship primary election”.
“I am calling on all my supporters to vote for Dr. Dauda Lawal Dare”.
Recall that Mahdi Aliyu Gusau was impeached by the state House of Assembly and is currently in court to challenge his impeachment.
With the withdrawal of the former Deputy Governor, the PDP has only two contestants. aspiring for Governorship position in the state.
These are, Dr Dauda Lawal Dare and Dr Ibrahim Shehu Bakauye.
Up to the time of filing in this report, the PDP was yet to start the primary election.
