Kebbi rerun, bye elections hitch-free, as voters, officials behave orderly

The rerun and bye elections of Yauri-Shanga-Ngaski and Arewa-Dandi Federal Constituencies in Kebbi State have picked up smoothly with the prompt arrival of electoral officers at polling units and the orderliness of the electorates as they quietly queued up for accreditation and voting.

At most polling units visited, it was discovered that election officers had as early as 8:30 am reported to duty and long queues of voters had already been formed, especially at Geza Primary Healthcare Polling Unit and Kyangakwai Primary ‘B’ 007 polling unit in Dandli Local Government Area as well as Zango Nizzamiya Primary School 009 Polling Unit in Kagiwa town of Arewa Local Government Area, where after accreditation with BVAS voting took place simultaneously.

The INEC Presiding Officer at Geza PHC Polling Unit in Kamba area, Mustapha Shuaibu, said “You can see yourself that the turnout is massive, even more than the general elections”.

“People are eager and willing to fulfill their civil responsibilities by participating in the process of electing the person that would represent them in the National Assembly.”

In the case of Yauri-Shanga-Ngaski Federal Constituency bye election, cross section of electorate separately at Yauri and Shanga Local Government Areas expressed satisfaction with both the turn out and early commencement of the exercise.

Speaking to Analyzer News, Malam Abubakar Magaji-Keri at Keri Primary School polling unit of Rafin Kirya ward in Shanga local government area said the general turn out was very impressive with women leading in number.

He said, the election started very early and the exercise went smoothly.

On her part, Hajiya Hussaina Yauri at Yauri Central polling unit said women needed to be commended because they turned out en mass to ensure they exercise their franchise with no report of any violence so far, adding that the security agencies were up and doing.

Also speaking, The INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in Kebbi, Alhaji Abubakar Sarkin-Pawa Dambo, advised political parties participating in the Saturday’s bye and rerun elections to accept the outcome of the election in good fate because all participating political parties and the electorates approved of the transparency of the polls..

Sarkin-Pawa Dambo observed that the contest was between brothers in view of the fact that, “they are all from the same constituency and all their ambition is to move the area to next level of development.

I therefore want to appeal to them to remain as so and respect each other’s interest for the progress of their area”.

“I urge the politicians to bear in mind that only God Almighty gives and retrieves power to and from whom He pleases. So, there is no need for do-or-die to grab power,” he said.
