Kebbi State Government has kicked against a misleading publication where Governor Nasir Idris was said to be spending the sum of N6 billion annually in supporting the army.
In a statement the Special Adviser to the Governor on Media and Publicity Alhaji Yahya Sarki said, the publication which was credited to Sen. Garba Musa Maidoki ( PDP-Kebbi South) was misleading and untrue.
Sarki maintained that, the Governor never said he has spent the said amount on the Army, but he only said that he spends N500 million monthly on the overall security in the state.
Sarki added that, the governor had tangibly supported all the security agencies, Army inclusive, to successfully discharge their constitutional duties.
He therefore urged the general public to disregard the said statement and continue to have confidence in the commitment of Dr Nasir Idris to fully ensure the security of lives and properties of all law-abiding residents of the state.
Sarki’s statement reads in parts as follows:
“The attention of the Kebbi State Government has been drawn to a very misleading publication that Governor Nasir Idris, (Kauran Gwandu) spends N6 billion annually in supporting the Nigerian Army in its operations in the state”.
“It is certainly an indisputable fact that Kauran Gwanadu has from last year to date attached priority attention to the security of lives and property of all the law-abiding residents of the state”.
“The governor had tangibly supported all the security agencies, Army inclusive, to successfully discharge their constitutional duties”.
“Relatedly, the Governor never said he has spent the said amount on the Army, but he only said that he spends N500 million monthly on security generally”.
“He stated this during the recently held Uhola festival in Zuru while he was reassuring the Emir and people of the emirate the determination of his administration to safeguard their lives and properties against the bandits”.
“Recall that the governor in his determined effort to support security personnel in the state had procured 27 Hilux vehicles and 1000 motorcycles and distributed them to the vigilantes”.
“He also increased and maintained allowances of security personnel operating across the state particularly those operating in Kebbi South”.
“The Kauran Gwandu has also remained committed and resolute in ensuring that the people of the state do sleep with their two eyes closed, without fear of any attack”.
“Therefore, the statement by Sen. Garba Musa Maidoki ( PDP-Kebbi South) at the Senate had misinformed the people of the state that Kebbi State Government spends N6 billion”.
“To set the records straight, the governor only said that he spends N500 million monthly on ensuring the general security of the state”.
“Consequently, the general public should discountenance the said statement and continue to have confidence in the commitment of Dr Nasir Idris to fully ensure the security of lives and properties of all law-abiding residents of the state”.
