Arrangements have been concluded by a Senator representing Zamfara West senatorial zone, Alhaji Abdul Aziz Yari to sponsor 1700 students to study various courses in the Nigerian universities.
The gesture is part of the former Governor’s arrangements to uplift the standard of education in the state under the A.A Yari Scholarship Initiative.
Addressing a press conference in Gusau on Sunday, the chairman of A.A Yari Scholarship Initiative, Senator Tijjani Yahaya Kaura disclosed that, those to benefit from the scholarship program must come from poor families who could not sponsor their children to university level.
Tijjani Kaura maintained that the former Governor of the state Abdul Aziz Yari, as part of his efforts to develop the state would give scholarships to 1700 indigenous students of the state to study various courses in the country.
He stressed that in order to ensure the success of the program, a committee was appointed to ensure that only those children who came from poor families would benefit from the scholarship.
“They must come from poor homes who could not be able to sponsor their children”.Tijjani insisted.
He explained that, the scholarship would be a total one where tuition fees and accomodation would be fully paid throughout their courses.
He added that, “Monthly stipend would also be given to the students for them to fend for themselves while in their respective universities”.
He further stated that, the committee would soon swing into action and the students would be asked to apply.
According to him, members of the committee were highly respected and trusted personalities who would do justice during the recruitment exercise.
He explained that 150 students would be selected from each of the five local government areas of Zamfara West senatorial zone.
Similarly, 100 students will be selected from each of the remaining eight local government areas of Zamfara central and north senatorial zones.
Memebers of the committee to be in charge of the local government areas are as follows:
Tijjani Yahaya Kaura would be in charge of Kaur-Namoda and Shinkafi Local government areas, Tukur Adamu would be in charge of Talata-Mafara, while Malam Abdullahi Maharazu would take care of Bakura local government.
Ibrahim Muhammad Danmadamin Birnin Magaji for Birnin Magaji local government, Barrister Sani Takori is for Gummi local government, UmaruJibo Bukkuyum, for Bukkuyum local government and
Mansur Muhammad for Bungudu local government
The rest are, Alhaji Ibrahim Danmalikin Gidan Goga would supervise Zurmi local government area, Professor Sha,aya Shehu, Maru local government area and Aminu Mohammed Tsafe to take charge of Tsafe local government.
