From Maiharaji Altine GusauThe former Emir of Maru in Zamfara state, Alhaji Abubakar Chika Ibrahim, dismissed by Zamfara state government last year for alleged aiding and abating banditry has drugged the Inspector General of Police and five others to court for illegal detention and defamation of character.
The other five respondents in the suit are, Director General State’s Security Service, Commissioner of police Zamfara state, Assistant Director, State security Service Gusau and Secretary to Zamfara state government, Alhaji Bala Bello Maru.
The Emir who filed the suit at the Federal High Court Gusau, was seeking for N6.5 billion as damages for his illegal arrest, detention and defamation of character.
But after hearing of the case today, the Presiding Judge, Justice Fatima Murtala Aminu transferred it to Zamfara state High Court for determination.
Speaking to newsmen shortly after the ruling, the Counsel to the applicant, Barrister Abubakar Aliyu Salisu said, “We are going to consider this ruling. We are going to study it very well in order to decide which line of action we are going to take”.
It could be recalled that, Chika was removed from his title as an Emir of Maru by Zamfara state government last year for alleged aiding and abating banditry and was kept in Zamfara Government House for 11 months.
