Bandits have again attacked three villages in Maradun local government area of Zamfara state, killed two people, forcing the entire communities to vacate to neighbouring towns.
The affected villages are, Magami, Tungar Haya and Sabon Sara.
An indigene of the area, Ibrahim Magami informed The Punch that, the bandits who came in large number on motorcycles invaded the three communities one after the other in the evening yesterday.
He said that, immediately they arrived at Magami village, they started shooting sporadically where one person was killed and the entire community ran to bush for safety.
He narrated that, when the bandits realized that there was nobody in the village, they resorted to breaking of shops and carted away with food items.
Ibrahim explained that, “the bandits also moved to Sabon Sara village and launched similar attack where one person was also killed and food items were stolen”.
“Similarly, they also went to Tungar Haya, killed one person and set the village on fire”. Said Ibrahim.
According to Ibrahim, the three communities have since fled to the neighbouring towns, while others have left the state.
Speaking on the incident, the spokesperson of the state police command SP Mohammed Shehu said, only two villages were attacked.
He confirmed however that, three people were killed during the unfortunate incident.
Shehu explained that, the two villages attacked were Magami and Tungar Haya, adding that, “Sabon Sara village was never attacked”.
According to him, the attack of the two villages was as a result of the attack of some Fulani herdsmen where three of them were killed by the Yansakai group.
Shehu Maintained that, the Yansakai had attacked and killed three Fulani herdsmen as a result of which, their brothers who were in the bush attacked the two villages for a reprisal.
He however maintained that, police personnel have been drafted to the area to restore peace and order.
