Former Governor of Zamfara state, Alhaji Abul Aziz Yari has cautioned Governor Bello Matawalle who is said to beplanning to defect to APC to note that, he is losing his seat if he leaves PDP, going by the Supreme Court’s verdit that brought him to power in 2019.
Addressing a mammoth crowd at the APC secretariat in Gusau today during the distribution of N1.3billion assorted grains purchased by the former Governor for APC supporters as Ramadan gift, Yari who was represented by Senator Kabiru Garba Marafa said “There are speculatons that Governor Matawalle is planning to join APC”.
Yari stressed that up to this moment, nobody called them to inform them either verbally or in writing that Governor Matawalle was defecting to APC.
He however cautioned that, the Supreme Court nullified the election of the APC candidates in 2019 and announced PDP candidates as winners who would remain in power till 2023.
“As such, until after that period, any PDP elected officer who defects to another party must also vacate his seat going by the Court’s judgement”
Yari said, Matawalle was being misled by some people to join APC forgetting the circumstances that have made him to become the Governor of the state.
“He has quickly forgotten that, it was by the Supreme Court’s judgement that he was opportuned to become the Governor of the state and if he defects to APC now, it means that he is overturning the Supreme Court’s judgement and returning the Governor’s seat to the same party”.
Yari further added that’ “By implication Matawalle is also returning the seats of all Senators, Members of the House of Representatives and those of the State Assembly to the same APC whose elections were nullified by the same court if they also decided to go with him”.
Yari stressed that, they would go to court to seek for the removal of Governor Matawalle and all other PDP elected members from the state up to the national level as soon as they defected to the APC.
“So we are cautioning him to forget about those people who are misleading him defect to APC. They don’t mean well for him and they are the ones to laugh at him if he finds himself in a mess”. Said Yari.
Yari however maintained that, they would welcome Governor Matawalle to the APC if he was willing to do so, explaining however that, he would be an ordinary floor members of the party.
There is no way, he can be the leader of the APC even if he defects to the party just because he is currently the Governor of Zamfara state. That will never work”. Concluded Yari.
