President Muhammadu Buhari has appointed Major General Farouk Yahaya as the new Chief of Army Staff.
This was stated in a statement from the Acting Director Defence Information, Brigadier General Onyema Nwachukwu,
Before his appointment, Major General Yahaya was the General Officer Commanding 1 Division of the Nigerian Army and the present Theatre Commander of the Counter Terrorism Counter Insurgency military outfit for theNorth East, with code name “Operation HADIN KAI”.
Major General Yahaya’s appointment came a week after the death of the former Chief of Army Staff Lieutenant General Ibrahim Attahiru and 10 other military officers who died in a plane crash in Kaduna.
