A stalwart of the All Progressive Congress (APC), Alhaji Sani Abdullahi Shinkafi has called on the National leadership of the party to take stringent measures against former Governor Abdul Aziz Yari and his supporters for violating constitutional provision of the party.
Addressing journalists in Gusau, Shinkafi maintained that, the former Governor and his supporters have violated the constitutional provision of the APC for holding a meeting in kabuna aimed at destabilizing the party and denting the image of Governor Matawalle who is now the party leader in the state.
Shinkafi said, as from 29 June 2021, Governor Bello Matawalle has been bestowed with the position of the APC leader in Zamfara state, as such, any action taken by any member of the party was a violation of the party’s constitution.
“Yari and his supporters should note that the national Caretaker Committee Chairman of APC Alhaji Mai Mala Buni had during the defection of Governor Matawalle said that, Matawalle is now the leader of APC”.
“But to our greatest surprise, the former Governor Abdul Aziz Yari, Senator Kabiru Mafara and their supporters went back to Kaduna and formed another meeting”.
“I am surprised that after Yari who told the world that he would support Matawalle could now go back to Kaduna and hold another meeting challenging the national Caretaker Committee Chairman”.
Shinkafi called on the national leadership of the party and President Muhammadu Buhari to take drastic action against Yari and all those who attended the meeting in kabuna.
He said that APC Constitution has made it clear that any member that violated the party’s constitution should be punished no matter how highly placed.
Shinkafi maintained that, as from June 29, this year, Governor Bello Matawalle is the leader of APC and all other party members must respect him.
He drew the attention of the national Caretaker Committee Chairman of APC and President Muhammadu Buhari those politicians in Kaduna have clearly disobeyed and violated the party’s constitution and should be punished immediately to serve as deterrent to others.
Shinkafi maintained that, the action of the former Governor and his supporters was ridiculous and could bring hatred and acrimony among the party members.
“Yari and his supporters have committed an offence by violating article 21 of APC constitution because they have already factionalized the party by ganging up in Kaduna to challenge the directive of the national Caretaker Committee Chairman”.
“I therefore called on the leadership of the party to constitute a committee to investigate and bring the former Governor and his group to book”.
“They should also put Yari under watch so that he should not have the chance of disuniting our great party”.
“Yari and his supporters should know that we are bonafide members of the APC now since we have defected to the party, as such, we will not fold our arms to watch some disgruntled elements spoiling our party”.
“I am also calling on the former Governor to drop his idea of destabilizing the party and come back to the state and join hands with Governor Bello Matawalle in order to collectively develop our state”.
Shinkafi also warned Governor Nasir El-Rufa,i to stay away from Zamfara politics and stop conniving with Yari and his supporters in destroying Zamfara state and the APC.
Shinkafi also drew the attention of the former Governor, Senator Marafa and all those who were nursing the idea of taking Governor Matawalle to court to understand that they were only wasting their time.
According to him, Governor Matawalle has the right to defect to any party of his choice, citing examples with other Governor who also defected to other parties.
He also maintained that, Matawalle’s Deputy Governor, Barrister Mahdi Aliyu Gusau could never become the Governorsimply because of Matawalle’s defection to APC.
“I want to draw the attention of the general public to note that the Governor and his Deputy have a joint ticket, as such, whatever affects the Governor will also affect his Deputy”.
