The Zamfara State House of Assembly has extended 48 hours for the state Deputy Governor Barrister Mahdi Aliyu Muhammad Gusau to appear before it to answer questions on alleged official misconduct levelled against him.

This followed a motion moved by the Deputy leader of the House Hon Nasiru Bello Lawal Bungudu under matters of personal explanation and prayers of the House and seconded by Hon Shafi’u Dama Wanke representing Gusau two (2) constituency of the state House of Assembly.

In his prayers to the House, the Deputy  House leader drew the attention of Mr Speaker and his colleagues on the House resolution of Wednesday 14th july 2021 where the  House resolved to invite the Deputy Governor to appear in person.

The state Commissioner of police Mr. Hussaini  Rabi’u was also to  furnish the House with all the relevant document on why his command allowed for such political rally by the Deputy  governor at that unfortunate period when the state was mourning the death of over 56 innocent people at Faru community in Maradun local government area of the state.

Hon Nasiru Bungudu further opined that since the Deputy Governor was fully and officially communicated with the House summon to appear before it but failed to do so there was need to extend the invitation by 48 hours.

“The House had invited the Deputy Governor to appear before it but no response was heard either from him or his office, there is the compelling need for the House to still respect his office and  give him additional timeframe of 48 hours, that’s Thursday 29th july 2021 for him to respond”.  Said Honourable Bungudu.

After careful observation of the request by the Deputy leader, the Speaker, Right Honourable Nasiru Mu’azu Magarya referred to his colleagues on whether they agreed to extend 48 hours ultimatum to the Deputy Governor to appear before  the House and they unanimously agreed through voice votes.

It could be recalled that, the Zamfara State House of Assembly has two weeks ago invited the Deputy Governor, Barrister Mahdi Aliyu Gusau to appear before it to explain why he held a rally in Gusau, the state capital but he turned down the invitation.

The Deputy Governor decided to remain in PDP when Governor Bello Matawalle defected to APC.
