The Zamfara State Road Traffic Agency (ZAROTA) has suspended the activities of tricycle riders in the state with immediate effect.
This was announced by the Commandant of the Agency, Colonel Rabi’u GarbaYandoto( retired) during an interview with newsmen in his office in Gusau, the state capital.
The Commandant said the decision became necessary following the Wednesday’s minor clash between personnel of the Agency and tricycle riders in Gusau.
Tricycle riders have accused the personnel of the Agency of extortion, which led to minor clash in parts of the metropolis.
Yandoto insisted that, “The order stands until the issue is resolved”.
In a related development, the chairman, House Committee on Transport at the state House of Assembly, Alhaji Yusuf Muhammad Anka has also announced the dissolution of the leadership of tricycle rider’s in the state until after the investigation into the matters.
He said the decision followed the factionalisation of the leadership for the association in the state, explaining that “the association has four factional leadership”.
He maintained that, the state government under the leadership of Governor Bello Matawalle cannot tolerated such kind of ugly situation to continue existing in the state.
