The Zamfara state police command has announced that it has rescued 16 kidnapped victims of Kaura-namoda and Zurmi local government areas on Thursday.
The rescued victims included women and children who were kidnapped in Magarya village, the hometown of Speaker Nasiru Muazu Magarya.
Addressing newsmen on Saturday, the state’s Commissioner of Police, Mr. Ayuba Elkana said, five of the kidnapped victims were from the Speaker’s village and the remaining 11 were indigenes of Kaura-namoda local government area.
“They were rescued today in addition to several other kidnapped victims who were earlier rescued as a result of the security measures adopted by the state government.
The Commissioner maintained that, the bandits were now finding it extremely difficult to operate in the state, following the security measures put in place by the administration of Governor Bello Matawalle.
He said, “The security measures put in place by Governor Matawalle are yealding positive results as bandits are now finding it difficult to operate in the state”.
He maintained that the police in collaboration with other security agencies would continue to decent on the recalcitrant bandits until the state was completely free from all forms of criminal activities.
He called on the people of the state to exercise patience on the security measures and continue to cooperate with the security personnel in order to achieve the desired result.
He also warned the bandits to either leave the state or face severe consequences, concluding that, “We will not relent in our efforts to rid the state of the criminal elements”.
