A member representing Talata-mafara North constituency in Zamfara state, Honourable Shamsudden Hassan has today escaped lynching during screening exercise of some nominees sent to the House by Governor Bello Matawalle.

The Lawmaker was challenging the nomination of one of the nominees, in the person of Hajiya Rabi Ibrahim Shinkafi who served as a special adviser in the state under Governor Bello Matawalle.

He vehemently disagreed with her new appointment to serve as a Commissioner in Governor matawalle’s Cabinet stressing that she was a total failure.

He said, “If the House is to screen her based on her previous performance, she will not scale through because she has scored zero in her previous assignment”.

But before he finished his observation, some youths who were in the gallery of the House descended  heavily on him, throwing all sorts of insulting words, telling him to shut up his mouth or face severe consequences.

Some angry youth had wanted to come down from the gallery in order to teach the Lawmaker a good lesson if not for the quick intervention of the security personnel working in the House.

Based on this episode, the House has banned supporters of political nominees from attending its plenaries.

In a press release, the Director General Press Affairs and Public Relations of the House, Mustafa Jafaru Kaura said, “Apparently not satisfied with the unruly behaviour of supporters of government nominees that usually escort them to the House for screening, the House has today resolved to ban supporters from attending its plenaries at the gallery .

“This decision was reached at today’s plenary when some members of the state Assembly made some observations with some commissioners and special Advisers nominees sent to the House for confirmation by the state Governor Bello Muhammad MON (Matawallen Maradun)”.

Mustafa stressed that the observation raised by Hon Abdulnasir Ibrahim Gayari representing Gummi two and Hon Shamsu Hassan Basko representing Talata Mafara North against the nomination of Jamilu Ahmad Gusau, Rabi Ibrahim Shinkafi and Dr Atiku Balarabe Zawiyya respectively was normal.

He said, “the observation by these these Honourable members which is normal and within the ambit of the law, did not go down well with supporters of these nominees which resulted in exchanging hot words to the Hon members from the supporters at the gallery thereby disrespecting the dignity and sanctity of the members and Hon House as a whole” .

While expressing their dismay over the issue, the House leader, Hon Faruk Musa Dosara and Hon Yusuf Alhassan Kanoma condemned in totality the barbaric unruly and undemocratic behaviour of these supporters and called on their colleagues to prevail on this matter to forestall the future occurance of this ugly situation.

After much deliberations and debate on the matter by the Hon members, Speaker Nasiru Mu’azu Magarya while condemning the act by these hoodlums consoled with his colleagues and apologised to them for the disgrace they received from the political thugs.

He  ruled that henceforth only three humble and respected supporters are allowed to escort any government nominee to the House for screening and confirmation.

Speaker Magarya then frowned at the sergeant at arms of the Assembly and other security personnel attached to the House to take decisive actions against any erring  political thug that tried to test the will of the House.

The speaker after cooling the political tension in the House later confirmed the nomination of the two commissioners and ten special Advisers as well as the state Auditor general .
