Zamfara state police command has rescued 24 kidnapped victims, including 4 students abducted while writing WAEC Exams and one student of Polytechnic Kaura-namoda.
Briefing newsmen in his office on Tuesday, the state Commissioner of police, CP Ayuba Elkana said, with the support of the state government under the leadership of Governor Bello Matawalle, Police Tactical Operatives deployed to different locations have succeeded in reacueing 24 kidnapped victims in Shinkafi and Tsafe local government areas respectively.
The commissioner said, “Among those rescued were four students of Government Day Secondary School Birnin Yero in Shinkafi local government area who were writing WAEC exams and one other student of Polytechnic Kaura-namoda”.
He said, ” Operatives deployed along Shinkafi axis while on search and rescue operation with regards to abduction of the students of Birnin Yero and other victims acted on intelligence information and rescued the students along with eight others”.
“The victims who spent 60 days in captivity have now been rescued unconditionally”.
“All the rescued victims will be medically checked, undergo police debriefing before handing them over to the state government to be reunited with their families”.
He further explained that, ” On 22 of November 2021 at about 2355 hours, our Police Tactical Operatives deployed along Gusau-tsafe-Funtuwa road succeeded in the additional rescue of 11 passengers who were abducted by armed bandits while traveling in the night about 2330 hours in Golf vehicles with registration numbers AE 535 ARG and GUS 274 XF”.
Elkana stressed that, all the rescued passengers have been debriefed and reunited with their families.
The commissioner warned members of the Public especially travellers and commercial drivers that the order of the state government, restricting movement of passengers into the state at night was still in force.
“Therefore, considering the time and period in which the bandits block me road and abduct innocent people, the command under my watch will arrest and prosecute any person or group of persons found violating this order. Concluded the police Commissioner.
Receiving the rescued victims from the police Commissioner on behalf of the state government, the commissioner of information, Alhaji Ibrahim Dosara commended the state police command for their untiring efforts in fighting the bandits.
Dosara said, the rescued victims would be handed over to their respective families as soon they were medically treated.
