The Zamfara state police command has arrested one Chukuka Jude for falsely acting as a lawyer and operating a law chamber.
Parading the suspect to newsmen in Gusau, the spokesperson of the state police command SP Mohammed Shehu said, Jude has been impersonating and cheating the members of the public by posing himself as a lawyer.
Jude, acccording to Shehu has been arrested with fake plastic ID card, stamp, a letter headed paper as well as a law chamber titled, “J. N Monyei and Co chamber”.
Shehu said, “On January 18, 2022 at about 1630 hours, the Zamfara state police command received a Complaint from the chairman of NBA, Zamfara state chapter that one Chukuka Jude, 45 years old was caught inside the Higher Sharia Court Gusau falsely acting as a lawyer to a client”.
“Police detectives promptly arrested the suspect and brought him to the SCID Gusau for descret investigation”.
He maintained that, the preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect has been putting appearances in different courts at Kaura-namoda, Birnin Magaji, Shinkafi and Gusau local government areas.
The suspect, acccording to Shehu was finally arrested for standing as a counsel to unsuspecting litigants for fees.
“Prior to his arrest, the suspect deceived many people by collecting huge sum of money from them with the aim of defending them before the courts”.
Speaking to newsmen, the suspect, Jude stressed that, he decided to impersonate as a lawyer due to hardship he encountered due to Corona virus”.
He maitained that, he owned a private primary school which was shut down due to Corona virus and insecurity.
“I have a primary school where I used to get money to feed my family but since the time it was shut down, I have nothing to do”.
“So I decided to impersonate as a lawyer and opened my chamber in Kaura-namoda called J. N Monyei and Co chamber”.
