Eighteen, out of the 22 members of the Zamfara state House of Assembly have on Thursday unanimously voted in favour of impeaching the state Deputy Governor in person of Barrister Mahdi Aliyu Muhammad Gusau from office .
The decision of the House to vote for his impeachment followed a motion moved by the state Deputy Speaker and chairman House committee on Public Accounts Hon Musa Bawa Musa Yankuzo and dully seconded by Hon Yusuf Alhassan Kanoma Maru North.
Immediately after the secondment of the motion, Speaker Nasiru Mu’azu Magarya directed the clerk Shehu Saidu Anka to effect voting for each and every member of the House that atteded today’s plenary as required by the law.
Eighteen (18) out of twenty two (22)members of the House voted in affirmative that they have fully supported for the impeachment move of the embattled Deputy Governor Barr Mahdi Aliyu Muhammad Gusau from office.
Shortly after the voting, the Speaker said “having satisfied the requirements of the law, the House passed a strong resolution of the House requesting the state chief judge Justice Kulu Aliyu to Immediately constitute a panel to investigate all the allegations leveled against the Deputy Governor Barr Mahdi Aliyu Muhammad Gusau as contained in the provision of section 188 (5) of the constitution of the federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended)”.
It could be recalled that in yesterday’s plenary the Speaker directed that each and member of the House be served with the impeachment notice along side with all the series of allegations leveled against him for their perusal and further necessary action.
With this development coming from the House today regarding the impeachment saga Barr Mahdi Aliyu Muhammad Gusau, attention is now being shifted to the Chief Judge and Head of judiciary of the state to do the needful by constituting the panel to fully investigate him as also required by the law of the land.
