Governor Bello Mohammed Matawale of Zamfara state has appointed a seasoned journalist, Malam Idris Salisu as Director General.
Idris ‘Hotline’ as he is popularly known started his career as a journalist with a popular Hausa newspaper, Gaskiya Tafi Kwabo where he worked with the paper in Sokoto state from 1996 to 1999.
He Worked with another popular Magazine, the Hotline Magazine from 1999-2002 as Correspondent in Gusau, Zamfara state.
Idris also worked briefly with New Nigeria Newspaper from 2002-2003 as Correspondent in Gusau Zamfara and later joined the Daily Independent newspaper as correspondent in Zamfara state from 2003 to 2014.
He joined the New Telegraph Newspaper as its Correspondent in Gusau, Zamfara state from 2014 and later invited by the Present Governor Dr. Bello Matawalle and assigned him as General Manager (GM) of his Kaduna based established NewsTime Magazine.
When the Magazine stopped production for obvious reasons, Idris returned to Zamfara state and continued reporting with New Telegraph until 2019 when he was appointed by Governor Bello Matawalle as Press Secretary office of the Secretary to the Government of Zamfara state.
Idris has been an active member of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) who held many positions in the union.
Some of the positions he held included Acting vice Chairman and Chairman of the Correspondents Chapel
At the NUJ state Council level, Idris held the position of Financial Secretary and State Treasurer.
Speaking shortly after his appointment, Idris Salisu expressed profound gratitude to Governor Bello Mattawale for elevating him to the rank of a Director General and assured that he would work very hard to justify the confidence reposed in him by the Governor.
“Now that Governor Matawalle elevated me to the rank of a Director General, I want to assure him that, I will not disappoint him”.
“I will do my very best to contribute my quata to the success of Governor Bello Mattawale’s administration”.
“I will Insha Allah use my experience and connection as a seasoned journalist to see a good cordial relationship between his Government and the Journalists working in the state”.
“I want to ones again thank Governor Bello Mattawale who gave me this appointment., I also want to show my profound appreciation to the Speaker Zamfara State House of Assembly, the Secretary to the state government and all those closed friends, Journalists and associates who have in one way or the other contributed to what I am today”.
