The newly elected chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Comrade Ibrahim Musa Maizare has urged members of the union to give him their maximum support and cooperation to move the union forward.
Maizare who spoke shortly after his election assured the members that their time, effort and concern which led to his victory would not go in vain.
He maitained that, he would work assiduously to move the union to the greater hight, calling on all the members to always proffer useful suggestions and advice on how to achieve the desired results.
In a thank you message, the new chairman said, “It is my pleasure to say a very warm thank you to members of NUJ chapels , all working journalists in the state, family members, friends, well wishers and those who directly or indirectly contributed or attended the NUJ state council 2022 election held yesterday.
“I heartily appreciate your company, your support, your suggestions and most importantly for your individual and collective concern which led to my victory”.
“Once again, I want to assure you, that your time, efforts and concern would not go in vain”.
“I also do hope that everyone went back home safely”.
Comrade Ibrahim Musa Maizare of the Zamfara state Printing and Publishing Company, ( The Legacy Newspaper) was on Saturday declared winner of the chairmanship election as he scored 68 votes.
His opponent, Comrade Nasiru Aula Dabbakal of Zamfara state Radio and Television Service Gusau got 31 votes.
Announcing the result at the end of the election during the union 2022 triennial delegates conference held at the NUJ Secretariat Gusau, Zamfara state the Comrade Akoredit Abdulraof who was the returning officer declared that Ibrahim Musa Maizare of the Legacy Newspaper haven scored the highest votes declared winner.
Other contested post announced by the returning officer also was the position of a Treasurer contested by two candidates namely, Comrade Jamilu Sani Tsafe of the Legacy Newspaper and Yakubu Samaila Kaura of the state ministry of information.
The incubent Treasurer, Comrade Jamilu Sani Tsafe retained his former position as he scored 68 while Yakubu Samaila kaura got 31 votes.
Meanwhile the positions of Vice Chairman, Secretary, Assistant Secretary, Financial Secretary and Auditor General were returned unopposed.
With this developmnet, the elected officials who would oversee the affairs of the union included the chairman, Ibrahim Musa Maizare Chairman, the vice chairman, Halliru Muhammd of NTA Gusau and Ibrahim Ahmed Gada of News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) as the Secretary.
Others were, Nafisa Ibrahim Kanoma from Zamfara Radio as Assistant Secretary, Jamilu Sani Tsafe of the Legacy Newspaper Treasurer, Mas’ud Ibrahim of Gamji TV Financial Secretary while Surajo Muhammad of the Pride FM Gusau as Auditor General.
The National officers who graced the occasion were, Comrade Akoredit Abdulraof, the National Trustee, Comrade Mohammed Garba and the Zonal Secretary, Comrade Abdurrazak Bello Kaura.
