NLC gives Zamfara govt 21-day ultimatum to pay N30,000 minimum wage or face industrial action

The Nigeria Labour Congress, (NLC) Zamfara State council has given the state government 21-day ultimatum to implement the Constitutional National minimum wage of N30.000 or face strike action.

The chairman of the state NLC, Comrade Sani Halliru who briefed journalists shortly after the State Executive Council (SEC) meeting on Thursday said, the strike action was the only option left for the labour leaders.

 Halliru said, as all promises, agreements and pledges made by the government have woefully failed the labour Leaders in the state have decided to go on strike after the deadline.

He said, “The leadership of the NLC Zamfara state council met with various stakeholders, including the politicians, government officials among others to proper solutions on the lingering N30.000 minimum wage but proved abortive”.

Halliru maintained that, the state NLC has resolved to give the state government 21 days ultimatum after which they would embark on industrial action to fight for their rights.

“We have resolved to give the state government a 21-day ultimatum to see if they can fulfill their earlier promise to pay the minimum wage”.

“If after the expiration of the 21-day ultimatum, the state government refuses to implement the minimum wage, we will be left with no option but to embark on a strike action”.

 “Because that is the only language the government understands”. Said the chairman.
