The Zamfara state chapter of the All Progressive Congress (APC) has commended the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd) for removing the name of the state PDP gubernatorial candidate, Dauda Lawan Dare from the National Merit Award.
Addressing Journalists in Gusau on Wednesday, the state APC Publicity secretary, Alhaji Yusuf Idris said, the removal of Dare from the awardees was an indication that, the fight against corruption by the Federal government was real.
He said that the aim of the press briefing was to commend President Muhammadu Buhari GCFR on the fallouts of the just concluded National Merit Award particularly over the removal of Dr. Dauda Lawal Dare the Zamfara PDP governorship candidate
Idris said, “For those who have been conversant with Mr. Dare’s issue around 2020, he had running battle with the nation’s anti-corruption agencies, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the ICPC linked to the former Minister of Petroleum Resources, Mrs. Diezani Allison Madueke involving millions of dollars”.
“We strongly believe that any awardee of the nation’s national award must be impeccable in character and must not be seen to have connection with proven destroyers of our economy such as the former Minister whose crime gained national and international repute”.
“So, for the committee to have removed Mr Dauda Lawal Dare from the list showed that the anti-corruption fight by the Buhari administration is real and we are using this medium to commend the government of the day over its stand against economic saboteurs however highly placed”.
“This is why we strongly believe that Mr Dare’s name was initially smuggled into the awardees list by whatever source, and having been detected, it was immediately removed”.
“Thanks to the good eyes that did this work to save Zamfara from embarrassment”.
Idris stressed that it was the trauma of the removal of Dr Dauda Lawal Dare from the list that the PDP had to shift its presidential candidate’s campaign visit to Zamfara until they recover from the shame.
“We are equally poised as a people in Zamfara to continue to support the Matawalle-led administration in Zamfara in bringing discipline and sanity into the polity and as the government in power, we shall also make sure that anyone who has corruption links is dealt with accordingly”.
“My dear colleagues, you will agree with me that with what just happened at the national merit award and on the PDP governorship candidate, there are many questions hovering over the candidate’s head which is also a caution on the good people of Zamfara to reason well during the upcoming 2023 elections and vote credible candidates whom we have provided during our rancour-free primary elections so that we will continue to have responsible leaders running our affairs and providing the good and people oriented dividends of democracy”.
“We wish to extend our appreciation to the federal government and the Merit Award selection committee for considering good citizens from Zamfara for the award and pray that more of our deserving sons and daughters will be considered in coming year”.
