A prominent politicians in Zamfara state, Senator Kabiru Garba Marafa has said that nobody could islamize or christianize Nigeria as being insinuated by critics of Muslim -Muslim ticket.
Marafa who was depending the Tinubu/Shattima as APC Presidential and Vice Presidential candidates of the same faith said, the arrangement could not make the country to be an entire Muslim nation.
He stressed that, the arrangement was based on merit not on religious ground, calling on Nigerians to disregard the rumor by some sections of the country that Nigeria was heading to a Muslim nation.
Marafa cited example of the past presidents who ruled the nation from both the Muslims and the Christians sides and nothing has changed.
He said, “Nigeria is not governed by any religion and whoever tells you that he is going to change the system is only deceiving you or has an ulterior motive”.
“Why is somebody so critical on who governs Nigeria?
”When Obasanjo was a President did he christianize Nigeria? When Goodluck was president, did he christianize the country?
Did any christian President stop Muslims from praying five times in a day?
“If you like, give the President of the CAN to be the President of the country, he cannot stop five daily prayers not to talk of going to Hajj”.
“What of Murlata Mohammed, Babangida, Abdussalam and Shagari? Were they able to islamize the country during their regimes?
“Let me tell you, nobody could deceive us again”.
Marafa therefore advised Nigerians to vote for any party of their choice, adding that, politics was a game of number.
He called on those who were not happy with a Muslim -Muslim ticket to also choose another party out of the 18 registered parties in the country to see if they could realize their ambition.
“You see, I don’t see anything wrong with Muslim -Muslim ticket or Christians-Christians ticket”.
“There are 18 political parties in Nigeria. If one party said,they are doing Christians-Christians ticket, another one said Muslim -Muslim ticket leave the one you don’t want and choose the one that you are interested in”.
“Nobody said anybody must be in APC. If you are not comfortable with APC, you can move to another party “.
“Whether you go to mosque or you go to church is your own business”.
“So please don’t people who have a hidden agenda and who want to achieve it through the Muslim -Muslim ticket”.
He maitained that, what the country needed was an honest and straightforward person who would lead the country with fairness and justice.
We want justice and equity. If there is security breach in Zamfara and Lagos, show us that both states are all under you, they are all your children and treat them equally”.
