A stalwart of the National Rescue Movement, Alhaji Mohammed Mansur Nakura Kaura-namoda has strongly criticized Governor Bello Matawalle’s intention to relocate the Federal Science and Technical College meant for Zamfara north Senatorial zone to his hometown in Maradun.

Nakura made the criticism while speaking to Analyzer news on Friday.

Nakura who is also a Senatorial candidate for Zamfara North Senatorial Zone under the platform of the NRM said it was not fair for the Governor to move the college to his hometown, knowing fully well that, it was meant for the northern part of the state.

He stressed that, the Federal government through the Federal ministry of education has specifically mentioned that the college should be located at the North Senatorial Zone of the state where such facility was mostly needed.

He therefore advised the Governor to rescind his decision and allow the college to be located in the northern zone of the state as approved by the federal government.

“I want to advise his Excellency Governor Bello Matawalle to rescind his decision of moving the college to his hometown and allow it to be established in the northern zone of the state for fairness and justice “.

“We have the facilities and all the requirements for the establishment of a technical and science college in the north Senatorial zone which comprises of Kaura-namoda, Shinkafi, Zurmi and Birnin Magaji local governments”.

“His Excellency may wish to know that, the north Senatorial zone is the only zone in the state that has no Federal College for secondary education”.

“The Central Zone has Federal Government Girls College Gusau, while the Western Zone has Federal Government College Anka”.

“In view of the above reason, it will be very unfair to deny the North Senatorial Zone the college which was specifically approved for the zone by the federal government as stated by a letter from the Minister of education.

It could be recalled that, the Minister of education has sent a letter to the Governor on the issue of establishing the college which reads in parts as follows:-

“I write to inform Your Excellency, that the Federal Government has prioritized the establishment of Science and Technical Colleges as a key objective of the nation’s youth policy”.

“In this regard, the President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the establishment of a Federal Science and Technical College in Zamfara North Senatorial District of your State that has no Federal Unity College to commence in 2023”.

“In view of the above, Your Excellency is kindly requested to forward three (3) recommended locations or Secondary Schools within the Senatorial District for upgrade to a Federal Science and Technical College”.

“Subsequently, a Technical Team from the Federal Ministry of Education would be visiting your state to review the recommended locations for further consideration.”

Nakura concluded that, the people of the area would continue to fight for the establishment of the college in the northern zone of the state since it was the only zone that has no such facility in the state.
