The Zamfara State chapter of the Peoples Democratic party (PDP) has condemned the arrest of former Minister of information Ikra Aliyu Bilbis by the police, describing the arrest as masterminded by Zamfara state government.
Speaking to newsmen in Gusau on Tuesday, the PDP chairman, Mukhtar Mohammed Lugga said the state government was afraid of the popularity of PDP’s gubernatorial candidate, that was why it was trying to create fears in the minds of the party’s supporters.
Lugga maintained that, the ruling APC was afraid to see a large crowd behind the PDP’s gubernatorial candidate, Dauda Lawan Dare when he was coming to Gusau from Sokoto.
He dispelled the claim by the ruling APC that the rally was illegal, pointing out that PDP had obtained permission from the inspector General of Police (IGP), DSS and other security agencies in the State before the rally.
“Even before the rally our supporters had been warned to be law abiding because it is very clear that APC in the State is playing politics with bitterness”, he lamented.
He maitained, that none of the PDP members tempered with any billboard or poster belonging to APC or anybody during the last Sunday’s rally.
Lugga stressed that if the APC claimed that its billboards and posters were destroyed, the party (APC) must have been responsible for that.
He stressed that nobody could intimidate the PDP in the state, adding that “Our members can never be intimidated with security operatives”.
Lugga said that the party would not surrender to any threats by APC and would not change its focus rather, saying that the aim and objective of PDP is to change the narrative in the State.
” We are aware that all the empty propaganda that the APC is making in the State is just to secure sympathy from people and get cheap publicity”
“They are aware that the electorates in the would revolt against APC in 2023 general elections.
He advised APC to play politics by the rule, adding that the party wanted to retain power by all means through do or die affairs.
Lugga concluded that, “no any form of intimidation can stop PDP to take over Zamfara state in 2023.
