The Zamfara state Commissioner for Women and Children Affairs, Hajiya Zainab Lawal Gummi has appealed to menfolk in the state to fear God and avoid violence against women.
In a statement, the Public Relations Officer of the ministry, Suleiman Isa said Hajiya Zainab made the appeal at a celebration of 16 Days of Activism Against Gender Based Violence held at the Ministry of Women and Children Affairs in Gusau.
The commissioner stressed that women are the most vulnerable in every society.
The commissioner said, “Due to the deterioration of the situation, there is violence between husband and wife, between lovers and even between father and daughter”.
She pointed out that protecting women’s dignity was God’s commandment, and advised men not to marry if they could not meet up the demand.
In a goodwill message, a representative of HSCL ACE 3, USAID funded project and the lead implementing partner supporting HIV program in Zamfara state, Hajiya Faiza Labaran sensitized people on the importance of knowing their HIV status.
She assured that she would link those diagnosed as HIV positive to the 13 supported health facilities in Zamfara state for treatment.
She appealed to the society to stop stigmatizing and discriminating against people living with HIV.
Hajiya Faiza pledged to stop violence against women and girls.
She also promised to report all GBV cases to the facilities for access to care and treatment support.
The 2022 16 Days of Activism was organised by the state Ministry of Women and Children Affairs in collaboration with Health System Consults Limited-Accelerating Control of HIV Epidemics in Nigeria, Cluster 3-Zamfara (HSCL ACE‐3).
The occasion was attended by all the Directors of the State Ministry of Women and Children Affairs, members of Non Governmental Organizations as well as some important personalities.
