The Federal University Gusau (FUGUS) in Zamfara state has matriculated 1945 fresh students for 2021/2022 academic year.
According to the list, faculty of science has the highest number of 954 students, followed by faculty of education which got 445 matriculated students.
Addressing the students shortly after the matriculation ceremony held at the University’s Matriculation/Convocation ground today (Tuesday), the Vice Chancellor, Professor Mu’azu Abubakar Gusau, charged the students to stay away from all social vices during their stay in University.
Professor Gusau further warned that, steps have been laid amongst which is ensuring hard work for the new students, strict adherence to the rules and regulations of the University, personal discipline, high moral standard and respect for the constituted authorities.
He added that, “Besides that, students must not indulge in examination malpractice and other social immoralities such as cultism, indecent dress, sexual harassment, theft and drug abuse amongst others, the penalty for those vices are clearly spelt out in the student handbook.
“As students, you must protect the integrity of the University, your integrity as well as that of your mates, management of the University, Governing Council and the entire staff, and by extension, the good name of the country and education”, Professor Gusau has warned.
Professor Gusau noted that, this was the 8th matriculation ceremony since the establishment of the University in 2013 as the number of students looking for admission had been on increase each year.
“This is attributed to our track records of excellence, peace, high moral values and frowning cultism and other vices which the University is well known for since it’s inception”. Said Gusau.
He explained that, out of 3978 candidates who applied for UTME and DE only 1945 witnessed the matriculation exercise.
He commended both teaching and none teaching staff of for their enormous contribution and dedication to duty despite all odds.
