The chairman, Nigeria Bar Association (NBA) Zamfara state branch, Barrister Junaidu Abubakar has appealed to lawyers to reduce litigation expenses considering the economic hardship being faced in the country.
Barrister Abubakar made the appeal during a closing ceremony of this year’s law week which took place at the Command’s Guest Inn Gusau.
He reminded his professional colleagues of the economic hardship being experienced in the country and the need to reduce charging fees so as to enable Nigerians have access to justice.
Barrister Abubakar also urged his members to always be dedicated, honest, trustworthy and professionals in the discharge of their duties.
He maitained that the week long ceremony was aimed at sanitizing the law profession and enlightening the people of the state about it.
Barrister Abubakar called on the general public to always consider lawyers as friends and partners in progress.
He stressed that, “Lawyers are always struggling to ensure justice for all irrespective of religion, tribes and region”.
“Our work is to ensure justice for all, as such I am calling on the general public to see our profession as service to humanity”.
Seven outstanding legal professionals were honoured during the event.
Those honoured include the first Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) Abdulaziz Sani Mohammed who received the Award of Excellence and the Secretary, Independent Corrupt Practices and other Related offences Commission (ICPC) Professor Musa Usman who was given the Award of outstanding performance.
Others were the Chief Judge of the state, Justice Kulu Aliyu who received the Award of Excellence, Kamaluddeen Mohammed who was honoured with Most Active Young Lawyer and Sha,awanatu Mohammed Ahmed who was given the Most Active Female Lawyer Award.
The rest were Justice Lawal Garba of the supreme court and AA Jibril Esq who received the Most Senior Lawyer Award.
