The Controller in charge of Central Bank of Nigeria,(CBN) Zamfara state branch, Mallam Buhari Abbas has assured Nigerians that, the new Naira notes have been designed in such a way that, they cannot be faked by dubious characters.
Addressing business communities during the sensitisation campaign at the Gusau central market on Saturday, Abbas stated that, the new naira notes have the security on them which made it almost impossible for anyone to fake the new currently.
He said the CBN has embarked on sensitization campaign to ensure proper public awareness on the designed new Naira notes and expiration of the old ones.
He explained that the awareness campaign was to make the general public both rural and urban communities know the deadline set up by the federal government for the expiration of old naira notes.
“The expiration date still remains January 31 and no extension, as such, I urge all and sundry to make sure that they deposit their old Naira notes to the banks before the time”.
Abbas stressed that any customer who refused to deposit his old naira notes before the deadline would surely lose his money.
“We are here to tell business men and women that, they should know the deadline, which is February 31”.
After this period, the old naira notes is no longer legal tender”. Concluded Abbas.
In his speech, the CBN head of Currency operations and distribution Dauda Maccido also emphasized that the era of printing fake Naira notes was is over.
“The new Naira notes have the security that safeguards them against faking”.
The head of ICT of the bank, Murtala Abdulrahman spoke extensively on the benefits of e-banking transactions.
He said “customers who transact business through e-banking will get between five to ten percent bonus of the amount they deposited or withdrawn”.
The representative of the state government who is also the the Special on market Development Alhaji Suleiman Zumunchi commended the CBN officials for the sensitisation campaign.
Zumunchi appealed to the people of the state particularly the business groups and to hasten the deposition of their old Naira notes before the expiration date.
