The Kebbi State Commissioner for Information and Culture, Yakubu Ahmed has urged working journalists in the state to provide maximum support to Govwrnor Nasir Idris led Administration in its developmental drive
The Commissioner who made the appeal at a Press briefing shortly after assumption of office said for any government to achieve unrivalled success and public acceptabiliry it most employ posirively the services of practicing journalist within its domain.
“We actually know the role of the media in shaping the affairs of any society as such expect you to tell the world the achievements the present Government have so far recorded in the areas of Agriculture, Roads Construction, Educational transformation and the completion of ultramodern secretarit” Yakubu Birnin Kebbi said
The Commissioner however stated that “While discharging your responsibilities you should as well be aware that the administration of Governor Idris welcomes constructive criticisms as democratic government because we respect all the ethos and principles of democrstic governance”
He disclosed that the Ministry would introduce radical changes aimed at raising the status of local media practitioners especillay in the areas of staff strengthening, training and welfare as well as the provision of digital equipment for both State Radio and Television stations.
Ahmed said as a deliberate policy the present Government would introduce quarterly Ministerial Press Briefing with a view to letting the public follow government programmes and policies thereby creating synergy between the administration and its people with journalists expected to be objective while reporting the contents of the briefings
