The Kebbi state commissioner of information Alhaji Yakubu Ahmed B/K has promised to work hard so as not to disappoint either Governor Nasiru Idris or the people of the state.

Addressing journalists in Birnin Kebbi the commissioner expressed gratitude to Governor Idris for finding him worthy of being saddled with that responsibility.

Ahmed stressed said he considered it as a call to duty in the service of his dear state and in the service of the good people of the state.

He said, ”I will, In Shaa Allah, do my utmost best not to let either the Governor or the good people of the state down”.

He expressed confidence that with his antecedents as a practicing journalist and a public relations consultant, coupled with his pedigree as a consummate broad minded professional, he would deliver.

Ahmed maintained that the task ahead of him was enormous and roundly challenging.

“I know, for instance that this Ministry requires some form of surgical operation in its composition, in staff strengthening, in digital equipment to empower it to perform optimally, in staff training and retraining to update knowledge and strength capacity and in welfare improvement of staff to encourage them to give in their best”.

“I am also aware that all the megaphones of the state government i.e the state radio and the state TV stations are in need of the same dose of surgical operation in about the same quantum of attention as mentioned above”.

“In fact, in their case, digitalization of their operations, logistics, infrastructure and transmission equipment upgrade and calibration is almost a must if we truly desire to play our roles as educators, entertainers and moulders of public opinion’:.

“The government printing press in particular has been left to waste over the years such that it no longer plays its traditional and statutory role and functions to both the government and its traditional customer base amongst the populace”.

“All these problems and challenges that have reared their heads and successfully block the oxygen pipe of these organs have been allowed to fester, making it virtually impossible for them to breath for survival”.

All the organizations that are under this important Ministry like the History Bureau, the cultural department have similar problems”.

“We cannot afford to sit back and watch as they are dragged down the abyss of malfunction when we all know their criticality in the success or otherwise of any government”.

He assured the press that he has come to change the narratives and open a completely new chapter in the way the information ministry has been administered in the past.

He said, “I am here to deliver, to change the mindset, to join hands with all stakeholders in the business of information generation and dissemination that will be tailored towards publicizing the activities of the APC administration of Comrade Dr Nasir Idris (Kauran Gwandu)”.

He promised to cooperate with all the stakeholders especially the working journalists.

“As members of the fourth estate of the realm, I will call on you to give me your maximum cooperation”.

“I will in the next few days, weeks and years, work out a template and a framework of action”.

My doors are opened to you for 24 hours and I will urge you to do your work professionally and ethically in order to team up with us to make Kebbi better. Making Kebbi better is a task that must be done”.
