Heavy downpour has claimed the lives of two breadwinners and a young boy in Dakingari, Suru Local Government Area.
Confirming the incident to Newsmen in Dakingari, the Council Chairman, Muhammad Lawal Suru said when the flood waters swept away the young boy the two adults attempted to save him but the powers of the surging water overwhelmed them and they eventually lost their lives.
Muhammad Suru said Local Government Council has provided emergency relief in form of cash and foodstuff to the families of the deceased before the State Government supplied its portion.
He pointed out that many property worth millions of Naira were destroyed.
He added that assessments of the extent of damage was being carried out to determine the nature of assistance to be given to the victims
The Council Chairman lamented that the rain water that had been causing havoc to the people for over 25 years usually drained from the surrounding hills in spite of the drainages available in the town constructed by the Governments of Saidu Dakingari and Atiku Abubakar respectively.
Muhammad Suru said while efforts were being made to channel the flooding waters to the outskirts of the town he urged people to desist from blocking drainages through illegal constructions and dumping of refuse
