A farmer in Kwanga village of Ngaski Local Government Area of Kebbi State has lost his life after a serious clash with some Fulani herdsmen who sent their cows into his farm and eventually destroyed his crops.
A resident of Kwanga village who pleaded anonymity said the Fulanis had in the past three years settled in the neighboring villages of Akpongo and Tungar Bako in Niger State but had been crossing over for grazing and on several occasions the encounter was always not cordial.
He said last Saturday was horrible as the Fulani ripped the left jugular vein of the deceased forcing him to bleed to death and thereafter drove their animals and fled out of their settlements leaving behind their wives and children.
Angry youth in large number stormed the two settlements and set them ablaze which resulted to the death of a minor suspected to be in deep sleep in one of the huts before the remaining family members of the Fulani were moved to the LGA Secretariat in Warah
Confirming the incident, Ngaaki Local Government Chairman, Abdullahi Buhari Warra said security personnel had already been drafted to Kwanga to avoid the escalation of the crisis adding that government would ensure the maintenance of law and order in the area
On the families of the Fulani herdsmen at the Secretariat, the Chairman said they were brought there to protect their lives and very soon they will return to their homes, revealing that the families of the deceased were given cash and foodstuff assistance.
