The Kebbi State Governor, Nasir Idris, has pledged to extend all the necessary support to the game of badminton to make it more acceptable amongsts Nigerians
He made this known at the final of a badminton competition organised by the Association of Badminton Clubs in Nigeria held in Sokoto.
The governor promised to do everything possible to make the game famous, adding that “I want a situation where the game of badminton will attract more audience than football in Nigeria. This is my dream and I pray this will become true soon.”
Governor Idris encouraged people to not only come forward and patronise the game by showing interest in the sporting activity but also consider it as a form of exercise that would result in burning down fats for proper healthy life
The final game, which featured Kebbi United Badminton Club against Bauchi Badminton Club ended up with a win in favour of Kebbi United Badminton Club.
In his speech,National President of the Association, Mai Bade, a monarch from Yobe State, Abubakar Suleiman lauded the governor for his contribution to the growth of badminton in Nigeria and urged him to sustain the tempo.
While appealing to the governor to accept their request for Kebbi to host the next turnement, the royal father also appreciated both the players and officials,stressing that their admirable efforts to the game led to a hitch-free competition.
